The concept of the Lamb of God was first revealed by Abraham in Gen.22 in response to his son's Isaac's question regarding the whereabouts of a suitable sacrifice. The patriarch Abraham prophesied "the Lord will provide Himself a Lamb." That prophecy was fulfilled when John the Baptist declared of Christ in Jn.1v29. "Behold the Lamb of God." However it is in the book of the Revelation where we see the ultimate manifestation of the Lamb. It is here that He is revealed in all His glory.

1. The Work of The Lamb Rev.5v6&7v17.

In these references the two-fold work of the Lamb on behalf of the Saints is set forth. Firstly, He is the Slain Lamb in 5v6, speaking of his great atoning work on Calvary when He was 'wounded for our transgressions and bruised for our iniquities.' It was to this sacrifice that all of the sacrificial lambs offered in the Old Testament economy pointed. Then in 7v17, He is the Satisfying Lamb, leading His blood bought Saints into all the blessings of eternal life.

2. The Worship of The Lamb Rev.5v8-14.

The scene here in Chs.4&5 of Revelation is of the throne of God in Glory. After describing for us the splendour of the Throne John goes into some detail concerning the Throng that surrounded the throne, all of which is both fascinating and intriguing. However when he gets to the Theme of the throng in 5v8-14, our hearts are lifted and with the hymn writer we are lost in 'wonder, love and praise.' For the theme of Heaven is primarily the Lamb. All Heaven will worship and adore Him, and the basis of their worship will be His sacrifice on the Cross, the great work of redemption, which he has wrought cf.5v9. This truly is the basis of all worship, and is a far cry from the sentimental slush that is passed off for worship in many churches today.

3.The Worth of The Lamb Rev.5v12.

In the midst of the song of worship to the Lamb in 5v8-14, we read of Heaven exclaiming "worthy is the Lamb that was slain." The acknowledgement of His worthiness here is because He alone was deemed worthy to open 'the seven sealed book,' cf.5v2-3. Most prophetic scholars agree that this book contain the title deeds to the earth, and none on earth or in Heaven were worthy enough to receive it and open it, save Christ the Lamb of God cf.5v6-7. He was worth because of His Sinless life and Sacrificial death.

4.The Wrath of The Lamb Rev.6v12-17.

The coming day of judgement (the Tribulation) which shall break upon an unsuspecting world is designated 'the wrath of the Lamb' cf. 6v16&17. Men will cry to the mountains and rocks to fall upon them and hide them from His wrath. This future judgement period widely predicted in scripture will be a time of trouble such as there has never been before nor ever will be again. It will consist of a series of three judgements, seals trumpets and bowls each series intensifying in ferocity. The leading figures in this period are the dragon the beast and the false prophet. Its culmination will be with the battle of Armageddon and the second coming of Christ. Believers need not fear this wrath because we will be delivered from it, not being subject to wrath but appointed instead to salvation cf. 1Thess. 5v9.

5. The War of The Lamb Rev.12v11.

This chapter symbolises a great conflict that has ensued between Christ and Satan throughout history. During the Tribulation there will be war in the heavenlies and Satan will be cast down to earth where he will continue to fight with God's people (Israel and Tribulation Saints). However in 12v11, we are told that they will overcome him by the blood of the Lamb. This has ever been the secret of victory over Satan down the ages for the Saints. The book of Revelation promises final victory over Satan after the Millennium when he is cast into the lake of fire.

6.The Wonder of The Lamb Rev.14v1, 21v22-23, 22v3.

One is struck with wonder at the Lamb when we read these references in Revelation. There is the wonder of His Triumph 14v1, as He stands on Mt. Zion in the midst of the 144,000 Jewish evangelists. What a contrast to the fall of Babylon in 14v8. Then in 21v22-23 there is the wonder of His Temple where we read that He is the 'Temple'. The scene is of the Holy City the new Jerusalem, and there is no temple there, it is not needed because His presence is everywhere manifested. Then there is the wonder of His Throne 22v3, where we see Him reigning supreme.

7.The Wedding of The Lamb Rev.19v7.

It is interesting here in 19v7, that the wedding is spoken of in the past tense, indicating that it is already taken place, 'is come' would be better rendered 'has come'. What's in view is the wedding banquet which takes place according to Jewish custom after the consummation of the marriage. The Church the Lamb's bride is presently betrothed awaiting the coming of the Bridegroom, she must make herself ready for His return.

8.The Wife of The Lamb Rev.21v9.

The Church, the Lamb's wife will be constantly at His side and inhabit with Him the Holy City. The Scriptures reveal that we shall also reign with Him, 2Tim.2v12, many scholars believe that as well as reigning on high, reigning with Him includes reigning along side Him during the Millennium.

9.The Writing of The Lamb Rev.13v8.

There are a number of books in Heaven,
The Seven Sealed book Rev.5v1-2 containing earth's title deeds.
The Mighty Angel's book Rev.10v2 cf.Dan.12v4.
The Book of Life Rev.20v12 containing the names of all living.
The Book of Remembrance Mal.3v16 a record of good deeds.
The Book of Births Psm.139v16
The Book of Tears Psm.56v8 containing the Saint's sufferings.
The Lamb's Book of Life Rev.13v8 recording the Saint's names.
